Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has reappointed Chief Bashorun Askia Ogieh, as the Managing Director of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC.Also reappointed by the Governor in a letter to the State House of Assembly read by the Speaker, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori at resumed plenary of the House, were Hon John Nani and Hon Daniel Mayuku as Executive Directors in DESOPADEC.

The Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa stated that nominating the three persons, Bashorun Askia Ogieh, Hon. John Nani and Hon. Daniel Mayuku for appointment into the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission DESOPADEC was as a result of the available vacancies in the Commission, stressing that the appointments were in line with the provisions of the law establishing Desopadec.The House after the receipt of the governor’s message suspended relevant rules of the house to enable it screened and confirmed the appointments.The motion for the confirmation of the appointment was moved by the Majority Leader, Hon Ferguson Onwo, seconded and adopted.

The House also at plenary, approved a request by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for an offer of a banking facility to the tune of N25 Billion.The credit facility which would be sourced from First Bank Monument Bank PLC, according to the letter conveying the request as read at Tuesday’s Plenary by the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, would be tailored towards Oil Palm Development in the State.Governor Okowa explained that the Oil Palm Development, proposed to sit on a capacity of 17,345.5 hectares, is in line with the State Government’s participation in the ongoing Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN oil palm Development initiative.

Motion for the approval of the request was moved by the Majority Leader, Hon Ferguson Onwo and unanimously adopted.Also at Tuesday’s Plenary, the House received two separate Bills forwarded to it by the State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa.They include; A Bill for a law to improve the administration of Justice procedures in the state and A Bill for a law to repeal the arbitration law 1918, Cap A13 Laws of Delta State.The first reading of the two bills are expected when the House reconvened plenary on Tuesday, June 21st, 2022.
